The students about to lose TOPS money — and the one move that fixes it.
GratNis reads the transcript data your school already sends the state and tells an overloaded
counselor exactly who is slipping off a scholarship, how much it is worth, and what to do this week.
No spreadsheets. No re-entering anything.
Naviance, Xello and SCOIR don't model TOPS, LEAP or Jump Start. That's the gap.

The problem
Counselors are asked to do this in a spreadsheet.
Louisiana ties real money to a set of rules no national platform models. The people
responsible for it are carrying caseloads nearly double what the profession recommends.
376–471students per Louisiana counselor, against ASCA's recommended 250
19core units, matched slot by slot, before a TOPS award is secure
$0paid out on a perfect GPA if the FAFSA was never filed
29independent charter operators in New Orleans alone
Districts that track early-warning indicators report 14% chronic
absenteeism, against 21% in districts that don't — and buyers are being
told to look beyond tools that simply count absences. GratNis computes the early-warning
triad, attendance, behaviour and course performance, on every student.
Figure reported by EdTech Magazine, “AI Attendance Tracking”, 2026. It describes
districts generally, not schools using GratNis.

What makes it different
Four things the national platforms don't do.
◎
Louisiana rules, as data
TOPS, LEAP 2025 and Jump Start are modelled as effective-dated rules, not hardcoded. When the
legislature changes a threshold, the platform changes with it — for the right cohort only.
$
Money, not status
Every list is ordered by what a student personally stands to lose. A counselor with one free hour
spends it where it is worth the most, instead of working alphabetically.
⇄
No double entry
We read the state's STS transcript file your district already submits. That one file carries the
grades, credits, quality points and scale we need — for every school system in the state.
!
It tells you when it doesn't know
Estimates are labelled as estimates. Automatic ticks are marked as automatic. Where a figure
needs confirming against LOSFA, the platform says so rather than guessing quietly.
◈
Whole-child, one record
Attendance, behaviour and course performance roll into a single early-warning signal — the
research-backed ABCs — instead of living in three systems nobody cross-references. And when a
student is absent, the platform aggregates the reason, so you can see that transport
is behind a Monday pattern rather than only that attendance fell.

Every plan: a one-time setup fee starting at $6,000 — data import from your current
SIS, mapping your courses to the LDOE catalogue and the STS transcript file, and training
your staff. It scales with your size and how many years of history you bring across, and
it is charged once, not annually. Pilot schools pay half, and the first three months of
the subscription are free.

GratNis is not a replacement student information system, and we will not pretend otherwise.
EDgear's JCampus holds roughly 90% of Louisiana districts and owns state reporting. We sit on
top of it.
The state's STS transcript file already contains every operand a scholarship
engine needs — course codes, letter grades, credits attempted and earned, quality points, and the
4.0-versus-5.0 scale. One parser serves all 69 school systems, whatever SIS they run.

Privacy is a design constraint
Built to Louisiana's rules, not just FERPA
Louisiana R.S. 17:3914 (Act 837) is stricter than federal law. GratNis
was designed against it from the first migration rather than retrofitted:
No Social Security numbers — students are keyed on the state LASID
Audit logging on every record holding personal information
Parent and student consent enforced before any email or SMS
Strict tenant isolation — one school can never see another's students
The state transcript export stays de-identified, exactly as the layout specifies
Questions
The things schools actually ask.
Do we have to replace our current SIS?
No. Compass runs alongside whatever you use today, including JCampus, and reads the transcript
file your district already submits to the state. Campus is there for schools that want the
operational side too — it is a choice, not a condition.
How long does setup take?
A school that can hand us an STS file or a roster export is usually seeing real projections for
real students within days, not months. There is no data-entry project.
Are the award figures exact?
No, and we label them clearly. Award values are planning estimates against average public tuition;
the tier a student qualifies for is computed from the published rules. GratNis tells you who is at
risk and what to change — LOSFA makes the award.
What happens to our data if we leave?
You export it — the state transcript file or any report, in a standard format, at any time.
We would rather earn the renewal than trap you into it.
Can parents and students see it?
Yes. Students see their own progress, the topics dragging their grades down and material matched
to those topics. Parents see their child's whole picture and approve anything that costs money.
Both are consent-gated.
Is there a pilot?
Yes — we are taking a small number of design-partner schools in New Orleans. A pilot is a
full-year agreement at the normal price, with half the setup fee and the first three months
free, and direct access to the people building it. A full year because the things worth
proving run on a school calendar: TOPS projections show up as soon as your transcripts load,
but FAFSA completion moves between October and February, and award outcomes land the following
autumn. Tell us about your school below.
See it against your own students.
The fastest demo is the one that uses your data. Send us a roster or
an STS file and we will show you your seniors, their projected awards, and the money currently
walking out of the door.
Typically a 30-minute call. No obligation, and we will
tell you honestly if GratNis is not the right fit for your school.
